The issue of prisoners of war during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) constituted a unique civilizational model for conflict management. It transcended the traditional view based on oppression, adopting instead a humane perspective grounded in rehabilitation, liberation, and compassion for the captive. God Almighty says, “And they give food, in spite of their love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, saying, “We feed you only for the countenance of God. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.” (Quran 76:8-9).This study aims to document the methods used to free prisoners of war during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and to demonstrate his wisdom in applying the principles of freeing prisoners through ransom and emancipation, depending on the prisoner’s circumstances.
