The article explores the axiological principles of the formation of professional competencies of a journalist in the conditions of digitalization, media convergence and transformation of the modern information space. It is substantiated that the modern media text is no longer just a traditional journalistic product, but is formed at the intersection of professional journalism, social networks, digital platforms, algorithms, user content and multimedia formats. It is determined that two opposing trends are simultaneously manifested in the modern media space: the spread of aggressive, manipulative, disinformation and traumatic content and the growth of public demand for ethical, reliable and responsible media products. Particular attention is paid to the concepts of trolling media text and ecological media text. Trolling media text is characterized as an axiologically dangerous type of content aimed at provocation, conflict, manipulation and destruction of trust. An ecological media text is defined as a value-balanced media product based on credibility, empathy, legitimacy, respect for human dignity and public interest. It is proven that a modern journalist should act not only as a producer of information, but also as a verifier, curator, interpreter and harmonizer of the media space. It is proposed to consider axiological competence as an integrative core of a journalist’s professional training.
